Failover and Backup Connectivity for IoT

Failover Connectivity, Built to Keep You Online

When your primary connection drops, a failover-ready router and a resilient SIM switch you over automatically, so payments, alarms, and monitoring keep running without a site visit.

Automatic Failover, Not Manual Recovery

Teltonika routers monitor the primary connection continuously and switch to a backup path within seconds of detecting a fault. There's no need for someone on site to notice the outage and switch it over by hand.

Warm standby and active-active configurations are both supported, depending on how much redundancy the site needs.

Dual Modem and Multi-Network Resilience

Dual modem routers such as the RUTC42, RUTM56, and RUTM52 run two independent cellular modems at once, so a fault on one modem doesn't take down the other.

Paired with Millbeck's multi-network IoT SIMs, each modem can also roam across multiple UK networks rather than being tied to a single operator, adding redundancy at the hardware, SIM, and network level together.

Built for Business-Critical Sites

From retail tills and ATMs to CCTV towers, EV chargers, and branch offices, failover-ready hardware keeps card payments, alarms, and monitoring running through an outage.

Ruggedised, DIN-rail-mountable routers suit unmanned and remote sites just as well as a back office.

Tested, Not Just Installed

With Teltonika RMS, failover paths can be monitored and tested on a schedule rather than left unproven until an outage happens.

Configuration changes and firmware updates can be pushed remotely too, without a site visit. This is what turns a backup connection into a genuine continuity plan

Failover and Backup Connectivity

Millbeck supplies the routers and multi-network IoT SIMs that keep business-critical sites online when the primary connection fails. Automatic failover switches to a backup cellular path within seconds, so card payments, alarms, and monitoring keep running without anyone visiting site.

Most sites still run on a single fixed line. When it drops, whether through a severed cable, an exchange fault, or a router reboot gone wrong, everything downstream stops at once: card payments decline, VoIP calls drop, and CCTV feeds stop recording. The cost is rarely one line item. It's the lost transactions, the engineer call-out, and the customers who quietly go elsewhere.

A Teltonika router monitors the primary connection continuously and switches to a backup path, usually 4G or 5G on an IoT SIM, the moment it detects a fault. For sites that need more than a single backup path, dual modem routers such as the RUTC42 and RUTM52 run two independent cellular modems at once, so a fault on one modem doesn't touch the other, whether that's used for instant hot-swap failover or to share the load across both connections.

The router is only half the picture. A backup SIM on the same network as the site's fixed line, or with weak local coverage, can leave a failover estate exposed exactly when it's needed most. Millbeck's multi-network IoT SIMs attach to whichever UK network has the strongest signal at each location, so the backup path is independent by design rather than by luck.

This is what keeps retail tills and ATMs trading through an outage, and it's the same architecture behind resilient CCTV and security sites, EV charging infrastructure, and smart building systems. For ISPs and MSPs, it's increasingly sold as a managed continuity service rather than a one-off hardware sale, with monitoring and scheduled testing bundled in.
