IoT SIMs for Secure Building Management Systems

Millbeck delivers secure, hardware-agnostic IoT connectivity designed to liberate BMS data. We provide the "dedicated lane" your building needs to automate energy efficiency, enable remote maintenance, and scale estate-wide monitoring without touching the corporate LAN.

Reliable Connections, Better Buildings

Secure Cellular Connectivity Independent of Building IT Networks

Independent Network Infrastructure

Bypass restrictive firewalls and landlord IT delays. Using industrial routers with RS232/RS485 serial interfaces, we connect legacy BMS controllers directly to the cloud. This provides a dedicated "out-of-band" management path that functions independently of the building's primary network for 24/7 uptime.

Hardened IPsec VPN Security

Critical controls require more than standard internet. Our Private APN and IPsec VPN tunnels ensure BMS traffic is encrypted and isolated from the public web. This secure, bidirectional path allows you to assign Fixed IPs to every controller for safe remote access and maintenance.

Resilient Multi-Network Failover

Our IoT SIMs feature multi-network roaming, automatically switching to the strongest carrier if a local tower fails. This redundancy is vital for mission-critical HVAC and lift systems where connectivity loss creates operational blind spots.

Centralised Estate-Wide Management

Simplify the management of geographically dispersed assets through a single pane of glass. Our connectivity platform allows you to monitor data usage, signal health, and SIM status across your entire building portfolio from one dashboard.

Engineered for Intelligent Building Management

Connectivity for Smart Buildings

Reliable BMS connectivity is not achieved through generic networking components. It requires industrial-grade hardware and secure cellular infrastructure. Millbeck delivers connectivity for intelligent buildings, supporting both modern and legacy BMS environments with resilience, security, and long-term operational stability.

The Hardware Backbone, Teltonika and Millbeck Integration

Industrial building automation demands networking equipment designed for harsh, always-on environments. As a Teltonika Diamond distributor, we supply routers and gateways proven in plant rooms and critical infrastructure deployments, with the stock position and long-term availability that sustained estate deployments require.

Pairing Teltonika RUT241 or RUT951 routers with Millbeck IoT multi-network SIMs creates a high-availability bridge between on-site BMS controllers and central supervisory systems. DIN-rail mounting, ruggedised enclosures, and long-term hardware availability make the solution fit for operational building environments, and the combination provides a stable industrial gateway for platforms such as Trend, Siemens, and Honeywell.

Bridging Legacy Hardware via Serial-to-IP

Many operational buildings still rely on serial-based BMS controllers with no native IP or cloud capability. Replacing these systems is costly and disruptive.

Using Teltonika TRB series gateways or RUT956 routers, we enable secure serial-to-IP conversion via RS232 and RS485. This allows legacy Modbus RTU and proprietary Trend Controls serial devices to be integrated into modern IP-based architectures, extending asset life, reducing capital expenditure, and unlocking access to modern analytics and remote management without compromising the existing plant room investment.

Advanced Security with Private APN and IPsec VPN

Cyber security is a critical concern for modern building systems. Standard public cellular connectivity exposes BMS controllers to unnecessary risk.

Combining Millbeck private APN services with Teltonika’s RutOS security features isolates BMS traffic from the public internet. Optional IPsec VPN tunnels provide encrypted, end-to-end communication between building sites and central supervisory platforms. This layered architecture enables safe remote access, bidirectional control, and compliance with modern security policies without exposing critical building infrastructure to the open internet.

Multi-Network Resilience for Mission-Critical Uptime

In intelligent buildings, loss of connectivity equates to loss of visibility and control. Millbeck IoT multi-network SIMs are designed for high-availability environments, roaming across multiple UK networks to maintain the strongest available connection. When deployed in Teltonika routers, an additional layer of hardware-level resilience is added at the device.

This architecture is essential for:

  • Critical alarms and fault reporting
  • Energy and carbon monitoring
  • Environmental and compliance systems

The result is uninterrupted data flow from Trend, Siemens, or Honeywell controllers regardless of network conditions at any single site.

Protocol Support, BACnet and Modbus

Interoperability underpins effective building automation, and BACnet and Modbus traffic behaves differently from standard IP data. Millbeck IoT SIMs deployed in Teltonika industrial routers are suited to the broadcast, polling, and latency profiles typical of BMS protocols carried over cellular. Cellular is higher latency than wired by nature, so we will always talk through whether the application is tolerant of that profile before you specify, particularly for tightly-timed control loops.

Remote Commissioning and Lifecycle Management

On-site visits for minor configuration changes are costly and inefficient. Every Millbeck-connected Teltonika router is provisioned with a fixed private IP, enabling secure remote access to BMS infrastructure when deployed with a VPN. This allows engineering teams to perform remote commissioning, firmware updates, diagnostics, and fault resolution without travelling to site.

Where appropriate, Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS), combined with a Millbeck IoT SIM, provides visibility into device status, connectivity health, and long-term operational performance, supporting efficient lifecycle management across estates.
